Background:
OSI-AF Civic Education Program, under Civic participation development through education initiative is devoted to sustainable development of Civic Education initiatives in Azerbaijan.
Main directions and achievements of the program during the past years:
- Civic Education projects involving international student and teacher exchange (like, DEEP- Democracy Education Exchange Program);
- Training a team of civic education teachers and teacher trainers;
- Giving impetus to formation of an association by these teachers -"Nur" Vetendash Tehsili Merkezi;
- Preparation and publication of Civic Education elective course for grades 5 and 6 in public schools (that has been recognized by the Ministry of Education);
- Civic Education through non-formal programs forming skills necessary for citizenship participation like the Debate program.
Program Priorities:
Currently Civic Education Program is shifting from pilot and demonstration model Projects to Coalition building among key stakeholders interested in promotion of Civic Education In Azerbaijan. Civic Education coalition building is an initiative of OSI, Catholic Relief Services, Harmony Project and Local Civic Education NGOs.
Goals are:
- To increase Civic Education participation through education
- To support the teaching of democratic and civics values in Education.
